This is a rare case that experienced seizures treated by acupuncture. A 41-year-old male who had epileptic seizure history had suffered from uncontrolled fine movement of muscles for more than 5 years, although he have taken Rivotril 1mg and Lamictal 100mg every day. So he sought for help and received acupuncture treatment. However he experienced seizures as soon as being inserted a needle. Once a needle triggered seizures, other needles were inserted to sedate the symptoms. The patient could live a normal life without any medication for one day after each acupuncture treatment. The episodes of seizures were shorter and symptoms were milder gradually after 6 months acupuncture treatments. Although acupuncture may provoke seizure, this case revealed potential beneficial effects of acupuncture in treating seizure.
