"I" am "Writing"-A Discussion in Describing the "Phenomena" of Calligraphy Writing

These days, writing with the Chinese brush pen has gradually been replaced by the computer and internet. However, it still remains fascinating to appreciate or create a nice piece of calligraphy work. Therefore, by the following discussion, the author hopes to illustrate the multi-relations of body-mind and time-space that a calligraphist goes through while he is creating works. The connection between body and mind should be correlated and undividable as long as a person physically exists in the world, this kind of mutual movement continues. When calligraphists write, they write with their hands and observe with their eyes. With these sense organs they revise and correct to improve their work in accordance with their feelings, experience and ideas. Through the writing process, it becomes inseparable of the calligraphist’s body and mind therefore surmounting the restrictions of time and space. Artists are then able to carry on a dialogue with the world as they are communing with nature. This is also when an artist becomes genuine about who truly exists in the world through his work of calligraphy. In addition, a durable work of art is a true and sincere mark that the artist leaves to the world as a living proof that he actually has experienced the fusion of body, mind and soul.
