The hydrodynamic model CCHE2D was used to study the hydraulic characteristics for the upstream regulation project of No. 10 Bridge in Jhongpu, Taichung. The differences between pre-regulation, post-regulation, regulations with different engineering considerations (including reservation of exiting rock, ground sill and low-water revetment) were investigated. The flow hydrograph, estimated from the 15-years rainfall data of the Chu-Lin gauge which is located within the watershed of the regulation project, was used as the upstream boundary condition. The model was built based on the field surveyed sediment distribution, riverbed morphology, and Manning's roughness. The simulation results including the flow velocities, depths and changes of riverbed elevation during the floods. These data were used to investigate differences between the regulation works. Then, the pre-regulation and post-regulation efficiencies were evaluated. It was expected to provide as references for the regulation projects of torrents.
