The purpose of this study was to compare the validity and reliability of the 3 Mm Step Test and the 20-metre shuttle run (20-MST) of the aerobic capacity for predicting maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) in 10-11 years old girls. Seventy-six girls (age=10.84±0.30 yr) were randomly underwent the 3 Mm Step Test and the 20-MST, all subjects were required to have a break at least 48 hours between tests. After one week, 38 subjects were randomly selected from the original group of 76 to complete the treadmill test (VO2max). Another 38 subjects were randomized to retake the 3 Mm Step Test t and the 20-MST as a test of reliability. The results for the VO2max, the scores of the 3 Mm Step Test and the 20-MST were 42.66±2.67 (ml/kg/min), 54.95±8.08, and 23.83±6.22 laps, respectively. Analysis using Person's product-correlation revealed correlations between these variables, 3 Mm Step Test vs. VO2 max, r=.286 (p>.05), 20-MST vs. VO2 max, r=0.75 (p<.05). The retest reliability coefficients for the 3 Mm Step Test and the 20-MST were 0.98, 0.91 respectively. In conclusion, considering the validity and reliability, the 20-MST could be used as the valid indicator for the assessment of aerobic capacity in 10-11 years old girls.
