社會議題類圖畫書在幼稚園中的批判讀寫教學

Using Social Issue Picture Books to Teach Critical Literacy in Kindergarten

摘要


幼稚園中老師通常較多使用有趣可愛的文本圖書,是否思考過有其他可用的範圍或可教的領域?其中「社會議題」類的圖書不會故意忽略差異,能夠鼓勵孩子問問題、也帶來有關社會公平和正義的討論。這類圖書讓人探討並尊重在文化、階級、性別或種族之間所造成的不同,聽到邊緣人的發聲,更能豐富兒童對歷史和生活的了解。這類書的結論很少是虛無的「從此過著幸福快樂的日子」,而是讓人們相信他們確實可以對社會重要議題表達意見和採取行動。這類圖書多適用於較年長的讀者,對於幼稚園兒童是否可行?社會公益的種子能否及早播下?批判讀寫教育能否施於幼兒?本文即欲探討這類圖書在一所國小附幼教室中實施的歷程與發現,及其所開創的繪本教學的意義與另類可能。

Social issue picture books pay attention to the difference among people, and it can bring up children's questions and discussions about social justice. These kinds of books also respect people's different background and enrich children's understanding of human history and life. Differ from those "happily ever after" stories, social issue books make children believe that they can express their thinking and take actions to solve the problems of the society and their own. However, social issue books mostly fit older children's need, can it be used for younger children? Can critical literacy be taught to young children by using these books? This paper is the finding of using social issue picture books to teach critical literacy in one kindergarten in Kaohsiung. It shows the alternative way of teaching with picture books.
