The Comparison of Post-Exercise Cortisol Level between Type A and Type B Personality Groups

摘要

This quasi-experimental study was conducted on 20 healthy volunteers (mean age=23.6, Female=9, Male=11) to investigate whether Type A group responded differently from Type B group in the post-exercise plasma cortisol level (PCL), following a 5 week exercise training program. The Jenkins Acticity Survey (JAS) was used to divide them into type A group (n=11) and type B group (n=9). The subjects exercised (bicycle ergometer) 3 times/week at 70-85% of their maximal capacity for 30 minutes at the same time when the resting control cortisol was taken. Six PCLS were taken and measured by the radioimmunoassay method. The 6 PCLs were all higher than the resting control but with no increasing or decreasing tendency throughout the 5 week training program. However, the type A group showed greater increase in the 1st PCL and the type B group showed siqnificantly qreater increase in the 6th PCL (p<0.05). The analysis of variance was used to show that behavioral pattern, Type A or Type B, did not influence the PCL significantly.
