植民地台湾における名探偵の誕生－「飯岡刑事」を例に－

19世紀に登場した探偵小説（後の推理小説）というジャンルが台湾で受容されるようになったのは、台湾が日本の植民地時代であった時期である。アジアでの西洋文学の受容は、その多くが日本という翻訳者を経たものであり、台湾における探偵小説も例外ではない。探偵小説というジャンルには西欧列強によるオリエンタリズムが強く反映されていることがすでに指摘されているが、それでは日本の植民地であった台湾においては、どのような探偵小説が生まれたのか。そして、そこにどのような意識が表出しているのだろうか。当時、台湾において書かれた探偵小説の多くが日本語で執筆されており、書き手、読み手の多くは在台日本人で、掲載された媒体の多くもこの小さなコミュニティに向けて発行されたものであった。この中で「飯岡刑事」という探偵が誕生し、事実と虚構がないまぜとなった、台湾屈指の「名探偵」として描かれるようになっていくのである。本稿では、本来は実在の人物であった「飯岡秀三」を虚構化した「飯岡刑事」の物語を例に、植民地台湾で書かれた探偵小説の特色について考察していく。

19世紀興起的偵探小說，在日本殖民期間為台灣所接受。亞洲接受西方文學的過程中，多透過日本這個「文化翻譯者」為中介，台灣的偵探小說亦然。先行研究指出偵探小說強烈展現出西方各國的東方主義，這一點無庸置疑。然而筆者欲著眼的是日本殖民地台灣出現的偵探小說之特色，以及作品中蘊藏的意識。當時在台灣發表的偵探小說，大多使用日語書寫，大部分的作者以及讀者均是在台日本人，而其刊載的媒體也都圍繞於這個小小的族群而運作。1910年代出現了一位日籍偵探「飯岡刑事」，在現實與虛構的界線被模糊化當中，他逐漸被塑造為一「名偵探」。本論文以實際存在的人物「飯岡秀三」為例，考察描寫「飯岡刑事、飯岡偵探」的各種文本，探討殖民地台灣的偵探小說之特色。｜Detective fiction, a literary genre established in the nineteenth century, became widely popular in Taiwan during the island’s 1895-1945 period of Japanese rule. The assimilation of Western literature into Asia has often been mediated by Japan (a ＂cultural translator＂ of sorts), and detective fiction’s swift pollination across Taiwan was no exception. Previous research has unequivocally demonstrated how mainstream detective fiction showcases the full spectrum of Western Orientalism. This research, as such, focuses on the features of detective fiction that emerged specifically from Taiwan during its period of Japanese rule, as well as the ideologies that underpin these works. Most contemporary detective fiction was written in Japanese by and for Japanese individuals living in Taiwan, and the distribution platforms of these works operated mainly within this tiny population. By the 1910s, however, a Japanese investigator who blurred the lines between reality and fiction named ＂Detective Iioka＂ gradually gained popularity, eventually developing a reputation of ＂Great Detective.＂ By examining a panoply of texts on ＂Detective Iioka＂ and his real-life counterpart Iioka Shuzo, this essay presents a case study that explores the unique features of detective fiction published in Colonial Taiwan.
