With the economic development and over-urbanization, the expansion of artificial environment has affected the area of arable lands and thus, green farmlands are disappearing from the city. The disappearing image of early rural villages creates not only a wall separating humans from the nature but the unfamiliarity of agricultural history. When it comes to construct a compact Taipei city, ecology and comprehensive humanity thoughts shall both be taken into consideration. In the ecological campus of National Taipei University of Technology, the vertical greening buildings and ecological river as well as pond have exerted a certain effects on the landscape and micro-climate. Within this finite space, the integration of green roofs and agricultural ecology, complemented with the future ecological landscape on the ground will surely create a various and lively 3D campus of ecology and humanity. The study adopts heuristic structure as the study method and the campus roofs of National Taipei University of Technology as the study subject, concluding 42 principles suitable for the planning and design of campus roof farms inside National Taipei University of Technology based on the issues of urban greening, agricultural scenes reproducing, history and humanity, and the environment of site. The study then proposes six design ideas, creating the targeted scenarios, ‘the exhibition hall of mobile memories’ and ‘the skyline of multiple-storied farms,’ based on second-order logic. The scenario is then transformed into spatial structure, serving as a reference and suggestion for National Taipei University of Technology to plan and design its campus roof farms in the future.
