Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology is currently being spotlighted by business practitioners and researchers. A whole RFID system usually requires effective automatic identification and data capture that meets the requirements for all business applications. That is, each company has its own set of unique requirements and procedures that often requires customization to its RFID systems. However, little attention is being made on applications for RFID system customization and integration in hospital environments. Hence, based on the related literature reviews, this study constructs a path analytical model to explore the relationships among, perceived willingness toward customization, perceived degree of customization, perceived value of customization, trust, and willingness to pay for customization. The respondents involved in this study are the employees from 29 hospitals. A total of 290 questionnaires were sampled, the questionnaire survey about two month period from February 9, 2009 to April 9, 2009, a total of 204 responses was deemed usable for the analyses, a 70.34% usable response rate. The research framework and all of the research hypotheses were demonstrated by the statistics techniques of multiple regression analysis. The results of this study are summarized as follows. Synthetically speaking, if the RFID suppliers can implement the fitting actions that make the hospitals perceive their willingness toward customization for the RFID systems, these actions will be able to promote the hospitals’ consciousness for the degree of customization to the RFID systems, and further enhance the hospitals’ willingness to pay for customization to the RFID systems by the hospitals’ perceived value of customization to the RFID systems and trust in RFID suppliers.
