The former Kangyo Bank building has historical and cultural significance. It originated as the Taipei branch of the Nippon (Japan) Kangyo Bank before serving as the headquarters of the Taiwan Land Bank. Later, it was designated as a municipal historic site by the Taipei City Government. Today, it is the Natural History Branch of the National Taiwan Museum (NTM). Inside, NTM curated a permanent exhibition entitled Exploring History: Permanent Exhibition on the Former Kangyo Bank Building's Restoration in 2021. The aim of this paper is to discuss the revamping strategy for this exhibition from a practical museum exhibition and education perspective. The exhibition narrative focuses on the life story of the building, emphasizing its construction process, corresponding sociocultural contexts, and the value of its preservation. It also highlights the restoration process and its diverse meanings and issues. Exhibition techniques that promote visitor engagement include the reinterpretation of architectural components and objects, revisiting of the restoration site through games and tasks detailed in explanatory leaflets, and asking of questions about historic sites and restoration. Over a period of two and a half years, 160 visitor comments were collected and analyzed. The results indicated that what resonated with visitors were concepts related to historic site preservation and restoration. In addition, visitors were interested in the life story of the historic site, which fostered emotional connections. Moreover, they recognized its value and expressed gratitude towards the restoration team. As such, many of the comments were positive. Due to the free and open commenting process, some comments were unrelated to the exhibition or were "short evaluative," but still provided important feedback. If museums would like to receive visitor comments that are relevant to their exhibitions, they need to design specific questions. By highlighting questions on exhibit panels and providing appropriate guidance on the leaving of comments, visitors can be encouraged to give more in-depth feedback.
