As the mass rapid transit system serves all people, the planning and designing of its equipment has to take convenience of all passengers into consideration. This study aims at the issues in the procedures of passengers using the automatic ticket issuing machines in the view of Universal Design. The target of the study includes seniors, visually disabled, physically disabled and general passengers. From the general document exploration and observation study, the initial design principles are established. With questionnaires survey, interviews and experiments, the initial design principles are verified. At last, based on the results of general discussions, conclusions are proposed and the design principles for automatic ticket issuing machines in Universal Design is established as: 1) standardization of functions, control panel design and ticket procurement procedures, 2) simple and straightforward visual ticket procurement procedures, 3) adding auxiliary equipment, 4) adding diversified selections, 5) reasonable height and space, 6) easily understood signs.
