Consultant Bill Bulter had asked me if there any figures regarding to the consumption of thermal energy for the hot press of our particleboard plant while it is in the maximum production output condition. He required this information for his new energy plan project that our company hnd asked. The average output of recent production is 75 tons/shift for 5/8" board. The temperature for its hot pressing is 330℉, Press cycle 4 minute, and the thermal efficiency for this hot press is around 70%. The heat energy lost in four edges and plate surface of hot press, for this hot press. The cost and on the way to hot press is estimated appraximately 2,706,000 BTU's/hr. The heat energy required for hot pressing 75 tons/shift of finished board is appraximately 6,312,000 BTU's/hr. The thermal efficiency therefore is estimated as 70% of natural gas for heating above energy is estimated approximately $18.31/hr. It is an important subject for improving thermal efficiency of hot press by additional insulation of heat pipes and reducing air flow at hot press area.
