臺大實驗林溪頭自然教育園區庭園紀念樹之探源

臺大實驗林自日治時期1902年創立東京帝國大學臺灣演習林，迄今112年。臺大實驗林在臺灣林業發展史上具有重要的歷史定位意義，溪頭自然教育園區具有教學實習研究與推廣自然生態教育等功能外，更提供博物學者一處優越的考察、採集研究環境。據1938年有關文獻記載，溪頭自然教育園區辦公室前庭園區共有72株日治時期及光復後栽種之庭園紀念樹。樹種以臺灣杉最多，共32株、其次為杉木24株、再者為柳杉6株、其餘依序為肖楠4株、紅檜4株、柏木1株、香杉1株。然紀念樹之原標示牌早已損毀，現已無法辨識當時由何人所栽種者。因此，本研究之主要目的在於進一步探索園區紀念樹栽植之根源。本研究內容包含量測每株庭園樹之胸徑及鑑定樹種。調查結果共紀錄庭園樹147株，分屬4科8種。其中以柳杉數量最多，共有56株（38.09%），其次為香杉47株（32.97%）。前述2樹種加總已達總株數之71.06%，另有臺灣杉33株（22.44%），合計前3種所占比例已達總株數之93.5%，其餘種類株數均在4株以下。柳杉、臺灣杉及香杉之胸徑徑級分別為65-70cm、100-105cm及60-65cm之徑級最豐。經考證相關文獻，日治時期曾在此區栽種庭園樹之學者計有川瀨善太郎、山本由松、伊藤太右衛門、三浦伊八郎、緒方正資、深谷留三等。值得注意的是，該園另有明仁天皇誕生時栽植之紀念樹。檢視溪頭自然教育園區內現有之相關解說牌，建議部分內容應做更新，如金平亮三與本多靜六手植樹種皆為臺灣杉，早田文藏博士應無手植樹等。

Experimental Forest, National Taiwan University, has been established more than 110 years since Japanese colonial period. Experimental forest has a historic meaning to Taiwan forestry development. In addition, Xitou Nature Education Area (XNEA) provides a function of teaching, researching and promoting environmental education. According to the literature in 1938, seventy-two memorial trees were planted in the garden in front of the office of XNEA during Japanese colonial period. Among these trees, Taiwania cryptomerioides is the majority in the number of thirty-two, twenty-four for Cunninghamia lanceoata, six for Cryptomeria japonica, four for Calocedrus formsana, four for Chamaecyparis formosensis, one for Juniperus sp. and for Cunninghamia koishii. However, the signs of these trees had been destroyed so that the planters for each tree couldn’t be able to identify. This study aims to investigate the origin of these memorial trees. Research approaches include measuring Diameter at breast height (DBH) and investigating tree species. The results showed that there are 147 garden memorial trees in total, which were divided into 8 genera and 4 families. The top three species are Cryptomeria japonica, Cunninghamia konishii, and Taiwania cryptomerioides with the number of 56 (38.09%), 47 (32.97%) and 33 (22.44) respectively. The results futher indicated that the average DBH of Cryptomeria japonica, Taiwania cryptomerioides and Cunninghamia konishii are 65-70cm, 100-105cm, and 60-65cm, respectively. From literature, Zentaro Kawase, Yamamoto Yoshimatsu, Ito Tayemon, Miura Ihachiro, Ogata Masasuke, and Tomezo Fukaya are considered as the planters. It should be further noted that there is a tree planted for commemorating Akihito Emperor's Birthday. The results suggested that XNEA should renew the signs, for example, Taiwania cryptomerioides is planted by Dr. Kanehira and Dr. Honda.
