Although the issue of low self-esteem was valued in numerous fields including social psychology, counseling, education, and healthcare, few definition of low self-esteem has been universally acknowledged. The study aimed to explore the operational definitions and the core characteristics of low self-esteem in the literature and applied the techniques advocated by Walker and Avant to redefine low self-esteem from a perspective on the use of conceptual analysis. Besides, four representative types of clinical vignettes based on the revised conceptual definition of low self-esteem in the study were provided for improving the understanding and being helpful with the implementation of patient-centered holistic nursing care.
