摘要

本文對胡適作爲五四啓蒙運動的思想家，進行概要的論述。這也是他一生自覺地、主動地、盡量要做好的一個角色。我不取絕對歷文化約主義的立場，而是以關懷自懷主義的前途爲出發點，分析與檢討胡適之先生啓蒙思想的幾個方面：（一）他的常識性自由正義的影響與限制：（二）他的自由主義的亮點：他與李大釗關於「問題與主義」的論辯的歷史意義；（三）他對於科學方法的說明所產生的限制；（四）他的「全盤西化」論的問題。

This keynote speech discusses analytically four aspects of Hu Shih as a thinker in China's Enlightenment: (1) his common-sense liberalism and advocacy of constitutional democracy and their influences and limitations; (2) the bright spot of Hu Shih's liberalism: his debate with Li Dazhao concerning ”problems vs. isms”; (3) the problems of his advocacy of science as a method, which turned out to be a misunderstanding of scientific method and the real nature of science; and (4) the problems of his advocacy of ”wholesale Westernization”.
