Summary: The role of government in the realm of electronic democracy depends on the models of electronic democracy. There are, in general, four different models of electronic democracy and any government has different roles to play in each and every model: a planner, initiator, and executer in case of the electronic bureaucracy model; a planner, initiator, executer, and monitor in case of the information management model; an evaluator, planner, executer, regulator, and monitor in case of the populist model; a regulator, monitor, and innovator in case of the civil society model.
