The post-tetanic enhancement of evoked afterdischarge elicited from the postganglionic nerve of isolated rat superior cervical ganglion in the presence of hexamethonium was shown to last for at least 30 min. Continuous glucose deprivation eliminated the post-tetanic enhancement; however, the latter phenomenon could occur if glucose was replaced after the 65-minuteglucose-free incubation. The result suggests that the post-tetanic enhancement process might be associated with the preganglionic acetylcholine content available for the stimulus-induced release.
