本試驗係以本所保存的臺灣秕稻498種及自大陸、IRRI引入之727水稻品種2~3葉齡之稻苗爲檢定材料。檢定方法是藉恆溫箱(Incubator)以5℃處理48小時後,依稻苗成活率之高低爲選留準則,而後將獲選的品種假嘉義分所以冷水槽(水溫10℃,處理10天)再行檢定一次。於第一期作,在天然低溫環境下,作秧床育苗爲對照,期能選出耐寒性強之品種,供品種改良之需。 經用以上方法檢定後,計選出:有芒早十日、永川沙刁子、上杭大冬、山冑、瓜熟稻及菜園種具有耐寒性之品種。同時,在檢定方法上,不論是採用恆溫箱或冷水槽(Water bath)二者所獲結果頗爲一致。
The rice seedlings at 2-3 leaves stage from 1,225 varieties (including 498 Taiwan Native Indica rice and 727 varieties from Mainland China and IRRI) were tested for chilling tolerance in an incubator maintaining at 5℃ for 48 hours. The rate of survival was used for criterion of the responses of varieties to chilling temperature. The selected ones were tested again in a water bath at 10℃ for 10 days. Afterwards, the seeds of the selected varieties were sown on nursery bed in the 1st rice crop under natural chilling condition to check their chilling tolerance. The results obtained from two methods involving incubator and water bath were similar and coincident. The seedlings of the varieties selected from the two screen tests in the laboratory as mentioned were all survival in the nursery bed under field condition. Consequently, the varieties selected for chilling tolerance were: Yu-mangtsao-10-jih, Shang-hang-ta-tung, Kwa-shu-tao, Yung-ch'uan-sha-tiao-tzu, Shan-mao and T'sai-yuan-chung.
