Pre-Concentration of Dissolved Copper Ions in Sea Water Using Chelating Ion-Exchange Technique

並列摘要

The possibility of using chelating ion-exchange technique to concentrate copper ions from sea water prior to the detection with atomic absorption spectrophotometry was monitored by means of a series of standard test. The effects of pH, flow rate and ionic strength applied in various types of elution were carefully examined in order to obtain suitable conditions for the sea water spiking experiments. Results show that the method can be specific for the determination of. copper in sea water at ppb levels and that the method have several advantages in comparison with other solvent extraction procedures in terms of convenience, rapidity and less possible contamination introduced through the addition of chemical reagents. The copper detected by the suggested method covers complete species of ions and inorganic complexes but for sea water analysis, the real concentration could be under-estimated if some organic substance-chelated copper species exist. However, the ease of handling this pre-concentration procedure allows more samples to be analyzed hence it is of great value to oceanographic and pollution studies.
