The emigration of Penaeus monodon from Dapong Bay in southwest Taiwan wasinvestigated from August 1984 to April 1987.The peak emigrations occurred from April to December.Most of the prawnsemigrated during 1-2 months after the rainy season.The prawns preferred to emigateat the new moon or the first quarter moon phases.The size(monthly mean carapacelength)of emigrating prawns ranged from 25.0 to 39.0 mm for the female and 24.6 to34.5 mm for the male.New emigrants occurred mainly in March,July,Septemberand November.There was significant difference in fatness between sexes in spring.For males,the fatness in winter was significantly different from that in the otherseasons.The ovaries of all females sampled were undeveloped.The rate of maleswith spermatophores was about 50% at a carapace length size of 36 mm.For allspecimens,the male significantly outnumbered the female.The sex ratio changedwith size,the female outnumbering the male when carapace length exceeded 45 mm.
