Recent, experiments have lent strong support to the van Hove model for the high- Tc mechanism in cuprate superconductors. The new evidence is from measurements of angle-resolved photo-emission, specific heat, jump at, Tc, the uniaxial stress effect on Tc and thermopower. The newly discovered superconductivity above 130 K in the Hg-Ba-Ca-Cu-0 system is also discussed in terms of the van Hove model.
