Development and Prospect of Public Libraries

This paper traces the historical development of public libraries, mainly in England and the United States. The role of the public library has changed. With the advent of the Internet, the public librarian is faced with greater challenges in terms of providing, organizing and delivering information. To meet the challenges of this new century, Taipei Public Library may reach out further globally by establishing joint library programs and exchanges.
