This study selected narrative review as methodology to address issues related to future collection development as follows: definition and scope of document, type of collection materials, definition and scope of library collection, approach of acquisition, print collection management and future trend of collection development for libraries. Five findings were presented by this study in the following: types of document are towards diverse ( including primary, secondary and tertiary sources ), digital technologies have impacted on documents and documents can be re-examined according to the functional perspective, library collection can be acquired and delivered by patron driven approach to meet users' requirements in a dynamic manner, libraries have to collaborate with communities to create unique collection resources, and collective collaboration and collections in a systematic way are the future direction for collection development in libraries.
