Extensor Loop Operation for Traumatic and Spontaneous Ulnar Dislocation of the Extensor Tendons

Dislocation of the extensor digitorum communis tendon over the metacarpophalangeal joint is a rare problem with patients without rheumatoid disorders. We report 3 patients with ulnar dislocation of the extensor tendons due to different causes. One of these cases was classified as a spontaneous dislocation and the other two as post-traumatic episodes. All patients were successfully treated by extensor loop operation with a distally based tendon slip. No recurrence of dislocation was noted after a 9-month mean follow-up time, and all patients regained the full range of motion after the procedure. The anatomic and clinical features, as well as the etiology and treatment of this disorder are described.
