並列摘要

Spinal lipomas not associated with excessive steroid use or spinal dysraphism are rare. Reports in the literatures with the incidence ranging from 1-3 % of all spinal tumors. From the period of January 2002 to July 2006, we treated 2 cases of epidural lipomas with clinical presentation as cases of herniated disc and spinal stenosis. After failure of conservative treatments, MRI study revealedepidural lipomas as the real cause of the patients symptoms and signs. Surgical decompression and tumor debulking was done with neurological improvement obtained. Review of the literatures for their occurrence and the many different hypotheses concerning the causation of this rare but easily misdiagnosed spinal entity is made.
