Different from its status in the Ming Dynasty, ci poetry in the Qing Dynasty is gradually influenced by Confucian poetry education and thus its central thought and writing style become identical to those of shi poetry. It is also asked to meet shi poetry's writing principle "to start from feelings and to end in righteousness" and even expected to have a better moral effect than shi poetry. Ci poetry's original feature "grief for oneself" is advanced to "concern about the country," and its main techniques of expression are changed into comparison and feeling expression, which are emphasized in Confucian poetry education.
