摘要

從理論、歷史和民意調查三個層面來探討近年來在台灣政局中逐漸興起的台獨勢力和統獨之爭。本文指出台灣意識是台獨思想的根源，民主進步黨和建國黨將台獨理念寫進黨章後成為宣揚和捍衛台獨思想的大本營。
運用民意測驗的資料，本文分成四章：感情章討論台灣民眾對中共態度；認同章探討台灣民眾的族群認同；路線章探討台灣民眾的統獨抉擇；最後一章為結論。本文運用了聯合報、中國時報、大陸委員會、民進黨等單位所做的民意調查，謹此致謝。

This paper will examine the rising Taiwan independence movement and the debate in Taiwan over unification and independence. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the Nation Building Party have become the “headquarters”for Taiwan independence, as both of them claim Taiwan independence as their goal in their party constitutions.
Based on the result of public opinion polls made by the Lianho Bao (United Daily News), Zhongguo Shibao (China Times), the Mainland Affairs Council of the Executive Yuan, and the DPP, this paper will develop its discussion in four sections: an examination of Taiwan people's attitudes toward mainland China; questions concerning ethnic recognition; policy lines determining Taiwan people's choice of unification or dependence; and a conclusion.
