論西班牙道明會士在華語世界早期傳教策略之轉變-以《辯正教真傳實錄》和《格物窮理便覽》文本比較為例

摘要


本文旨在比較西班牙道明會傳教士明末清初在菲律賓馬尼拉出版的兩個早期傳教文本《辯正教真傳實錄》(高呣羨 [Juan Cobo],1593)和《格物窮理便覽》(Thomas Mayor 1607)之間的區別和聯繫。通過比對考證,可以看出這兩個文本是對同一部西班牙教理著作《信仰之標記導論》(Introducción del símbolo de la fe)(Luis de Granada, 1583)的轉寫,其內容存在一致性和互補性,應是西班牙在菲律賓的道明會集體意志的產物。然而,兩書在語言風格和文本性質上有顯著差別,對天主教術語的翻譯處理也有明顯不同,從中可看出1593-1607年間道明會傳教政策的轉變。

This article compares the similarity and divergence of two early Catholic texts in Chinese, both written by Spanish Dominican missionaries and published in Manila: Testimony of the True Religion (Pien Cheng Chiao Chen-Chu'an Shih-lu, Juan Cobo, 1593) and Symbol of Faith (Gewu Qiongli Bianlan). Actually, these two texts are adaptations of the same Spanish catechist best-seller: Introduction to the Symbol of Faith (Luis de Granada, 1583). The contents of these two early catholic texts in Chinese, on one hand, have apparent coincidences and reciprocal complementarities. So they must have been products of a collective missionary project of the Dominican Order in Manila. On the other hand, the two books have an apparent contrast in language styles and they belong to different text types, while they also applied different translations of the Catholic terms. Thus, through the study of these two texts, we can see the changes of missionary policy of the Dominicans in Manila from 1593 to 1607.
