當代台灣的史學與社會

摘要

本文指出近五十年來台灣史學與社會的基本關係。當代台灣的史學與社會都相當受以中國為框架的歷史觀的制限，這種思考框架很諷刺地是來自十八世紀以來中國相對日本更密切的世界經貿關係，以及因之而產生的近代以來中國相對日本頻繁的外力侵逼。救亡圖存成為近代中國之一大課題。中國成為思考中國問題的習慣性空間範圍。但在另一方面，當代台灣的史學與社會又嚴重脫節。現代化理論一則造成史學在當代台灣社會之不被重視，二則造成史學也分經濟、社會、政治、思想等區隔，有關各種人類行為，各個時空歷史間的互相關連性著墨不夠，而使史學未善盡其提供人類整體思考訓練之職責，三則常造成史學「以今論古」而未遵守「以古論古」的金科玉律。當代台灣史學的權威在古史，史學方面的獎勵政策不很了解「結構」比「部份」更決定整體性質的方法論意義。這些都是造成史學與社會嚴重脫節的原因。除建議改建立世界史觀以開啟國民新的器局之外，本文也建議史學多鼓勵整體解釋性的研究，而少鼓勵部份描述性的研究。此外，此文還建議立法院儘速通過檔案法，政府機構將所有當代台灣的報紙、公報建立光碟，並透過各級歷史教育從事研究實習，以發起全民寫史運動。在史學與社會往這些方向努力之後，整個社會才能真正了解我們之所由來以及該走向何方。

This paper deals with the basic relation between contemporary Taiwan's historiography and society. Both to a great extent share the China-bound historical perspective. Such kind of bondage can be ironically traced back to China's more intimate world economic relation than Japan in the eighteenth century. Such difference paved the ground for the following more foreign encroachment upon China than upon Japan in the modern period. To save China as a national entity was the background for such kind of China-bound historical perspective. On the other hand, contemporary Taiwan's historiography and society was very much engulfed. Modernization affected the general societal cmpaty toward historiography. In historiography itself, modernization theory encouraged the so-called specialized yet partial studies which could not provide the society sufficient historical inspiration. The modern-based value judgment also distorted historiogaphy' credo for sympathetic understanding of the historical society studied. Contemporary Taiwan historiography's focus on ancient history reinforced Taiwan's society's separation from history. To ease these problems, this paper suggests the establishment of worldwide.
