Adaptive reuse vacant or unoccupied spaces can raise the value of entire society. The Council for Culture Affairs has been enthusiastically processing the program of ”Adaptive Reuse Vacant or Unoccupied Spaces.” Many of creative thoughts on adaptive reuse have been applied to those featured vacant spaces. In order to build adaptive reuse model for vacant spaces, two stages of research method are applied in this study; namely, documentary analysis and questionnaire surveys on experts. The method of document analysis is based on Christopher Alexander's classical book titled The Pattern Language in 1977. This study borrows Alexander's 253 building pattern languages and reviews how they can be applied to domestic vacant spaces and possibilities for space transformation. On the other hand, the questionnaire surveys are applied for examining if Alexander's pattern language is suitable for the domestic vacant spaces. Finally, this paper summaries a suitable spatial model for domestic vacant spaces that is intended for architects, interior designer, and landscape designer a method to plan, to design, and to alter original spatial function on vacant spaces for adaptive reuse.
