Spatial Structures and Social Network Relationships of Condominiums with a Behavioral Model: A Case Study of Social Housing

Buildings and cities both serve to accommodate the various crowd activities. All human behavior occurs in a space, and every interaction between human and between human and a space is unique. For instance, different crowds in the same space may engage in different activities. This study defines the relationships among such crowds as a social network, and a spatial relationship system, which is an aggregate system comprising various local spaces featuring different functions, as a spatial network. This study selects social housing as a case for analyzing spatial network and social network, using spatial structure and social network analysis (SNA) to discuss the relationship between the location and frequency of use of public spaces, and comparing the explanatory power of two computational models, spatial syntax and SNA, for urban spaces. The local integration value in space syntax exhibits satisfactory predictive power for spaces with high frequency of use, and the betweenness centrality in SNA shows favorable explanatory power for the actual movement of human flow.
