Preliminary Report on Inberd Line Selection of Wax Gourd (Benincasa hispida Cogn.)

摘要

由行政院農業委員會自印度引進的數個冬瓜品系分配至本場試驗，經試種結果發現這些冬瓜生長勢強、適應性良好，可成為優良的育種材料。新引進冬瓜品系果實大小形狀變異很大，初步依其果實外觀及果形指數（果長／果寬）分為球形、短圓形、短筒形、及長筒形等4種果形，選擇不同果形的植株以自交方式進行純系選種試驗連續二代，使冬瓜果實長度及果形變異範圍縮小且符合選種目標。本文係初步試驗結果報告，將可作為今後冬瓜育種之參考。

Some varieties of waxgourd were introduced from India by Council of Agriculture, and then were distributed to Hualien DAIS. Those waxgourds showed high vigorous in growth habit, which could be used in breeding program to improve local cultivars. Highly diversity in fruit shape exist in those accessions. The fruit shapes were classified into 4 types by fruit shape index (fruit length/width), which named round, short oval, short cylinder, and long cylinder. By the use of inbred line selection method to manipulate those accessions in 2 generations, the variatons of fruit length and fruit shape are decreased and coincided with selection aim. Futher test in quality and other major characteristics is needed before good line is release as local cultivar.
