電信等級的網路設備或伺服器向來以私有(Proprietary)架構為主,但在降低開發時程與成本的需求下,目前也開始趨向標準化的開放式架構,包括ITU、PICMG、OSDL、SAF等標準組織相繼投入相關模組之規格及介面訂定。此趨勢將對整個下世代通訊設備市場將產生結構性影響,國內廠商因而有機會切入高階電信等級通訊設備之模組與系統市場。

For a shorter time-to-market and a lower cost, the carrier-grade network equipment and server vendors are adopting open architectures to replace formerly proprietary architecture based systems. International organizations including ITU, PICMG, OSDL and SAF have all committed to the drafting of related module standards and interfaces. This trend will impact the next-generation communication equipment market structurally, and give opportunities for Taiwan's companies to enter the global market of carrier-grade communications modules and systems.
