Mucous Membrane Graft for Serious Trichiasis

並列摘要

Mucous membrane grafting for the correction of 80 cases of serious trichiasis cases is reported. Graft is obtained from the mucosa of the internal surface of the lip. A strip of ca. 4mm in width and 10 to 30 mm in length is excised. Dissection is made post to the ”gray line”, of intermarginal space, the skin-orbicularis-muscle-tarsal-plate anteriorly and tarsal conjunctiva posteriorly is thus separated. Donor graft of mucous membrane is placed between the separated edges of the incision at the lid margin and fixed with silk sutures at the anterior, edge near the skin, while another post edge is left unsutured. In total eighty Arabian cases are operated at the Misurata Hospital, Lybia. Sixty cases operated according to this method show excellent in result, no recurrence is experienced. Forty cases are followed more than a year. In another 10 cases in those two (ant. and post) edges of the graft are sutured, one case recurred. In the remaining 10 cases eye lid margin is separated into two layers of skin, orbicularis muscle anteriorly and tarsal plate, tarsal conjunctiva posteriorly one case showed recurrence. Importance in suturing only one edge of mucous graft is stressed.
