Reevaluation of Argon Laser Photocoagulation for Central Serous Chorioretinopathy

摘要

榮總眼科在民國66年3月至69年9月的5年半期間，於眼科視網膜門診所見之中心性脈絡視網膜症、除資料不全者，共197例。分為兩組，A組不作雷射光凝固療法，B組施以雷射光凝固療法。在兩個月內，視力明顯改善者，A組僅佔28.4%，B組則達94.2%。顯然雷射光凝固療法對於本症病程的縮短，加速痊癒過程，有明顯的幫助。

By using the Argon Laser Photocoagulator (modle 800 & 900, Coherent Radiation Co, USA), the authors treated 102 cases of central serous chorioretinopathy and observed another 95 cases without photocoagulation.
The clinical pictures of this disease are rather typical. It affects young and otherwise male patient. In this series, the ratio male and female is 10:1. Subjective symptoms mainly are visual impairment, Central scotoma and dimness of light.
After photocoagulation treatment, symptoms of most patients improved and got remission or even symptom-free within 1 month. The average time for remission is three weeks, any untoward side effect had been found in all 102 treated patients. Generally, the vision returned to 6/7.5 or better. On the contrary, without Laser photocoagulation, symptoms of many patients persisted for more than 3 months, and the average time for remission is 3 months.
Photocoagulation therapy is the only effective treatment for central serous chorioretinopathy at present time. With Argon Laser Photocoagulator, it is rather safe if performed carefully by experienced doctor. An early treatment with photocoagulation is satisfactory in facilitating the resolution of this disease and thus helpful in early alleviation of unpleasant symptoms.
