The Effect of Retinal Detachment Surgery on the Cornea

摘要

Consecutive 26 patients who were suffered from monocular simple phakic rhegmatogenous retinal detachment were included in this prospective study. Endothelial cell density, central corneal thickness, and axial length were measured before and after scleral buckling surgery. There was no difference between control (fellow eyes) and study (eyes with R.D.) group in central corneal thickness, and endothelial cell density corneal thickness was significantly increased at the first post-operative day (p＜0.0001). But three months post-operatively, there was not significant change of the endothelial cell density. Elongation of axial length was found after surgery in operated eyes (p＜0.05). According to present study, we concluded that the corneal changes in eyes which received scleral buckling surgery for treatment of phakic rhegmatogenous retinal pre-operatively. In operated eyes, the central detachment were only transient effect.
