The Selective Suture Cutting Effect for Control of Astigmatism after Cataract Surgery

126 eyes underwent ECCE+PCIOL by the same operator and procedure were studied for suture-cutting effect for astigmatism. We divided the cases into 4 groups according to suture cutting numbers, we found that: (1) There was 2.38D spontaneous regression one month postoperatively. (2) One suture cutting produced 1.54D regression effect. (3) From 8 weeks to one year, more astigmatism reduction was found in suture cutting group than in no suture cutting group. (4) Progressive regression effect was still present one year after surgery. (5) Those eyes which had with-the-rule astigmatism before the operation would have more regression response after suture cutting.
