Topical Cyclosporine A 0.05% in the Treatment of Superior Limbic Keratoconjunctivitis

Purpose: To report a case with superior limbic keratoconjunctivitis (SLKC) treated with topical cyclosporine A (CSA) 0.05% drops successfully. Case report: A 21-year-old male with SLKC treated with topical corticosteroids and lubricants showed persistent conjunctival congestion in both eyes. His thyroid function was normal. Added topical CSA 0.05% drops were used with improvement of irritation and foreign body sensation, as well as decrease of conjunctival edema and papillary reaction one month later. He remained asymptomatic on topical CSA 0.05% for 3 months without complications. Conclusions: Topical CSA 0.05% is effective and beneficial as adjunctive therapy for SLKC. Further study may be needed to delineate the role of primary use and maintenance to prevent recurrence.
