The purpose of this paper is to investigate how traditional educational theory, J. F. Herbart's pedagogy, applies to the modern age under the trend of globalization. Based on the principle of solidarity, the author elucidates solidarity from Herbart's ethics and emphasizes international cooperation as practice of solidarity. Through the process of expanding the contents, Herbart's pedagogy and his moral theory can respond to challenges from the globalized world, and his theory is applicable to the modern societies.
