The key feature of amorphous carbon as the anode material is that even at high C-rate (>5C) the capacity can achieve more than 80% under quick charge/discharge rate. The compositions of crude oils, coking processes and the carbonization of high-temp recombination are the main factors to achieve this. China Petroleum Company (CPC) is developing amorphous carbon as the anode material. The effects of different precursor oils and process parameters on the change of carbon structure and on the battery performance are discussed in this study. The use of oils from different refining processes in CPC was to make more selective and various precursors. Those precursors were introduced into fabrication processes of coking, carbonization, and modification to study the battery performances of the high capacity amorphous carbon.
