The selection of map projection is very important for the production of maps. Its primary task is to decide the mapping equations for the coordinate conversion from the sphere to the plane. Since the earth surface is undeveloped, to represent it on the plane, there must he deformation. Affected by the deformation of maps, the accuracy of map data is also changed. Therefore, how to select a suitable map projection is an important subject. Recently, under the leading of automatic mapping, the Geographic Information System and mapping software have been developed swiftly. The selection of map projection had been the basic function of these software. However, if the selection method is short of the instruction for different conditions, it will not be efficient for the map maker, especially the amateur, to select an appropriate map projection. Based on this, a set of map projection selection mode suitable for Geographic Information System is presented in this article. We hope it would be beneficial to the development of automatic mapping.
