Professional cartography has greatly changed in Taiwan over the past several decades. In this paper the cartographic curriculum from live universities' was collected and their credit, instructor and equipment were compared. The results were then outlined based on the academic cartography evolution process. Furthermore, a review of theses, dissertations and professional journals showed that perception and education about cartography was the most popular research topic in Taiwan. Only a few scholars, however, were involved in map design and map generalization. The application of Geographic Information Systems, such as neural networks, on the other hand, has received increasing attention in recent years.
