The study aims to explore the intention of the hotel industry towards managing green hotels, and their understanding of ecolabels. The research adopted in-depth interviews, supplemented by the questionnaire, and the survey was conducted in Penghu. According to the survey results, most of the hotel managers were willing to go green, because they thought that green hotels were the future trends. They perceived high benefits of managing green hotels, but they did not have sufficient knowledge of the requirement of green hotels. The study also found that most hotels continued to implement some environmental management items, especially items which were clearly defined or perceived as cost-saving. The results suggest that eco-rating led hotels to better environmental performance, but the rating program should be carefully planned and implemented. In addition, the respondents knew little about ecolabels, but they thought that the sales of hotel rooms would benefit little from ecolabels. The study suggests that more promotion of green consuming is needed.
