The aim of this research is to study Taiwan Japanese learner's pause in making emphasis as well as to analyze the Japanese learner's pause problem by comparing the difference in between the native Japanese speaker and Japanese learner. The results of the analysis are as the following: The characteristic of the native Japanese speaker making emphasis is to pause before or after the emphasized sentence or before and after the emphasized sentence. However, the Japanese learner not only pauses before or after the emphasized sentence but also pauses before and after other non-emphasized sentences. In addition, the analysis result also proves that this learning issue is not related to the period of time in learning Japanese. In other words, the learner will not be able to naturally learn the pause for making the emphasized tone as they learn Japanese for a longer time. In general, the Japanese learner's talking speed is slower and the pause time is longer compared to the native Japanese speaker.
