The Research of Parent-Child Shared Mealtime, Parenting Dietary Behaviors, Coparenting and Parent-child Relationship

The aim of this study was to study the influence of parent-child shared mealtime, parenting dietary behaviors, coparenting on parent-child relationships for parents with young children. Questionnaires were utilized to investigate the parents in New Taipei, Taipei and Taoyuan cities. The total of 450 valid questionnaires were collected. The data collected were analyzed by descriptive analyses, t-tests, Pearson correlations and regression analyses. The results were as followed. The parent-child shared mealtime happened frequently during dinners. The frequency of mothers' shared mealtime with young children was relatively higher than that of fathers'. Mothers and fathers tended to encourage and discipline their young children' dietary behaviors often. The supportive subscale was relatively higher and the undermining subscale was relatively lower in coparenting scale. Parents agreed that they had good relationships with young children. From the results of the regression analyses, the results showed that maternal encouragement, the frequencies of paternal shared dinner time and supportive coparenting for fathers had significant prediction on parent-child relationships. The total variables explained 10%~13% variance of parent-child relationship. Finally, according to the results, the suggestions were provided for parents, government and future studies.
