This study aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitude and their factors about accident first aid among students of a medical junior college in southern Taiwan. Subjects were1st to 3rd year students recruited from two departments: Nursing and Occupation safety and Health. 252 self-reported questionnaires were completed. The results revealed that the knowledge of first aid was in moderate level and cardiac massage was particularly the weakest part. Furthermore, the students displayed a positive and supportive attitude towards first aid for accidents. Of all the variables, departments experience of accidents -within the family, experience of administering first aid for accident victims, and taking first-aid course were the most significant predictors of knowledge about accident first aid. Department, sex, grade, and experience of administering first aid for accident victims were significant predictors of the attitude toward accident first aid. This study recommended that education of accident first aid at school should be emphasized.
