Background: The importance of high-alert medications for patient safety. Objective: To explore the effectiveness of game-based learning in improving the high-alert medications knowledge, motivation and safety attitude of new nurses. Methods: Applying game-based learning and ARCS motivation model, design a 60-minute board game of "cheers in drug safety, Yes! I can!". The learner is 21 new nurses, and plan is identify high-alert drugs from the game. And learning effectiveness are identification test of high-alert medications, test of safety procedure with high-alert medications, the group interview and the activity observation record. Results: The knowledge-raising section, the learners' difference before and after the identification test of high-alert medications was statistically significant (p < .001). Degree of learners' preference for game-based learning is 100.00%, and learners' motivation is as high as 98.75%. The 95.24% of learners said that they should perform a double-check before performing the drug administration for improve medication safety. Conclusion: The use of game-based learning as a clinical teaching tool could improve the motivation and clinical practice skills of new nurses.
