Graduate Physical Therapy Programs in Taiwan

摘要


臺灣的物理治療研究所教育始自1997年國立臺灣大學物理治療學系招收之碩士班,98學年度在碩士班招生方面,九所有物理治療學系的大學中有三所國立大學;一所私大設有系所合一之碩士班,另一所私校以獨立所申請成立,招收碩士班學生,但運作模式似系所合一;還有兩所私校,部分教師參與其他研究所之教學與研究,定額或不定額指導學生進行研究,僅有二校因成立較晚,尚無固定機制發展研究所相關教研工作。研究所多元招生(招收其他系所畢業生)是目前各校一致的作法,各校現有的師生比差距不大,也都有六學分碩士論文的要求,泰半碩士班畢業生回歸臨床工作。博士班級學生之招收始自成功大學物理治療學系與其他三系所合作設立之跨領域獨立所,「健康照護科學研究所」於2003年開始招生;臺灣大學物理治療學系博士班於2004年招生;陽明大學物理治療學系與輔具科技研究所於2007年合併,同年開始招收博士班學生;長庚大學則於2009年開始招收博士班學生。跨領域博士班立意甚佳,然資源整合;所務運作上不易,學生必修學分多。各校博士班多元發展是趨勢,博士論文學分數明顯不同,臺大在2008年已有畢業生。評鑑制度協助各研究所發掘問題;尋求改善;建立定期審視和改善的機制。大學授與博士學位的量和質是研究型大學競爭力的重要指標,未來博士班畢業生的能力和就業是研究所博士班評鑑要點,值得物理治療界重視。

The physical therapy graduate program in Taiwan began in 1997, started from National Taiwan University. Three national universities and two private universities, out of eight universities which offer undergraduate physical therapy education provide master-level graduate courses. There are two other private schools where some of physical therapy faculty direct and supervise students' research work collaborating with faculty in other graduate programs. Nowadays the physical therapy graduate institutes recruits students from a variety of undergraduate programs with acceptable teacher-to-students ratio. Six-credit master theses are required by all the master programs. More than half of master degree graduates work in the clinical settings. Departments of physical therapy, nursing, psychology, and occupational therapy started up the Institute of Allied Health Sciences for Ph.D students only since year 2003 in National Cheng-Kung University (NCKU). School of Physical Therapy, National Taiwan University started offering a doctoral program in 2004, while Department of Physical Therapy and Assistive Technology, National Yang-Ming University started since year 2007. Chang Gung university started Ph.D program in fall 2009. The multi-disciplinary Ph.D program involves more efforts in integrating resources and administrative work and more credits required to complete for students. Diversity of graduate institutes can be expected, especially the Ph.D program and Ph.D dissertation of different credits was noted. The capability and the employment of the Ph.D holders need follow-ups and to be emphasized. Program evaluation can assist the graduate institutes to explore their problems and seek ways of solution, in addition, to establish the mechanisms of regular self-evaluation and improvement. The quality and number of doctoral degrees awarded are the main indices of a research university, and the competence of the doctoral students may be one of the key aspects at the evaluation of doctoral programs.
