【論文摘要】The Effects of Treadmill Training on A Child With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: A Case Report

【論文摘要】跑步機訓練對於注意力不足過動症兒童的療效:個案報告

摘要

Background and Purpose: Several studies indicated that children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) showed poor physical fitness ability than healthy ones. Besides, studies also indicated that children with ADHD also have the high risk in movement delay. Moreover, studies also proposed that through treadmill training can improve the physical fitness ability and movement performance for children with ADHD. In this point of view, the effects of treadmill training on physical fitness ability and movement performance were investigated in children with ADHD. Methods: A male child (5Y10M/O) with ADHD was recruited in our case report. Participant started to receive treadmill training for 30 minutes once a day, one time a week, from October 2018 to March 2019. The speed would be set between 2.0 km/ hour to 4.0 km/hour. Borg's 6-20 rating of perceived exertion (RPE) scale were set at 6. After treadmill training, participant also needed to receive 10 min stretch exercises. The movement performance would be evaluated by Peabody Developmental Motor Scales Second Edition (PDMS-2) in locomotion subtest. Physical fitness ability such as sit and reach, sit-up and body mass index (BMI) would be evaluated. All of the tests would be evaluated at pre intervention and post 6 month intervention. Results: After 6 months intervention, the raw score in PDMS-2 locomotion subtest showed improvement from 169-174. Besides, the results of physical fitness ability showed improvement in sit and reach (30.5 cm to 35.0 cm), in sit-up (0 repetition to 2 repetition). However, there was no difference in BMI after intervention. Conclusion: Through 6 months treadmill training can improve the movement performance and the physical fitness ability in sit and reach and sit-up for child with ADHD. Clinical Relevance: In this point of view, treadmill training could be a regular training protocol for children with ADHD.
