I have decided to do this research for the following reasons. Firstly, on reviewing the work in this field I have come to the conclusion that research is badly needed in this area. Secondly, I believe that hockey coaches in this country need the perspectives given from this kind of research. Thirdly, I hope that my taking research in this area to a deeper level I can provide something for coaches and players alike to use as reference-both in training and competition. This research will use the 23 specialist hockey players of Taipei Physical Education College and the 24 players of Taoyuan Hockey Team-winners of the National Hockey Competition-as our subjects, taking the total up to 47 players. After all the statistics were analyzed, evaluated and discussed we came up with the following results: 1) Height and weight of different position players: There is significant difference between the frontline line and defense line (P<.05), and between the frontline line and the goalkeeper (P<.05). On the other hand, there is no significant difference between the goalkeeper and defense line (P>.05). This research discovered that the height and weight of the frontline players was less than in any other position a result similar to that of other study. 2) In a 60m sprint measure, it was found that the gap between front line players and the defense line was not significant (P>.05); whereas the gap between the front line and goalkeepers was significant (P<.05). 3) In a test of their physical stamina in which they had to bounce a ball up and down the court and then do the same in an S-shape, the difference between the 3 categories proved to be not significant (P>.05). However, the front and defense lines proved to perform better than the goalkeepers so the difference between the front and goalkeeper was significant (P<.05).
